You should know something about me.  It might help you understand why I did what I did.  I was only eleven-years-old that day.  That morning I left the house, saying goodbye to my dad and little brother.  Little did I know I would be a different person by nightfall. I would not be the shy and irresponsible person I was that morning I left our 3rd floor apartment. Up until that day long past I had no goals in life, I had no friends really, and my life was just a long string of day following day.  But it all changed for me and later that night I met a stranger who would teach me one of the most important lessons of my life.  Here’s the story of an afternoon which changed my life...for the better.

Writing Prompt for ELA

1.  Type on Google Doc.
2.  Double Space
3.  Type in Paragraphs
4.  12 font
5.   Interesting Title

Directions:  Your task is to write a story that concludes with ONE of the ready-made conclusions.  Have fun.

  • One thing was clear;  No one would ever bother that old gray cat again.
  • The three bullies stood over me.  They were laughing, but I knew at last that I had won.
  • "Goodbye, my friends, "said the talking worm.  That was an awesome day we had together.
  • The sun sank slowly into the east.  Three days ago, none of us would have believed it.  But now it seems almost normal
  • My final advice is this:  If anyone offers you a million dollars, don't take it.  You've seen how it ruined my life.
  • I clicked on the T.V.  Nothing happened.  I tried the phone.  Same thing.  I turned the handle of the faucet. Only one drop came out.  Earth, I knew, had been saved.

Feedback forms due…all of them.  These are the small sheets you used to give you Team member Feedback.

Go for a 10 Score!  Look poised even though inside you may be nervous.  Sound convincing, relaxed, and in control.  REally, it's all about not reading the speech but talking to us in as conversational a way as you can.

You will be scored using the 10 point scale on the back of the Practice Poise sheet.

ELA Wednesday Resources

Please identify the nouns and verbs in this passage from a speech I, Mrs. Leighton, wrote a few years ago.  Sort them into the correct columns.  You will want to read these passages aloud with Mrs. Beals first.  See how many nouns and verbs you can find.

I could hear the waterfall before I even saw it.  My children and I trekked down over a high river bank and there we were.  What a neat place we had found.  The river was flowing quickly with lots of little whirlpools and gentle rapids as well as some pretty intense water.  It was hard to believe that a quick walk through the woods and we had discovered this fabulous swimming spot, with a set of waterfalls and not one single tourist in sight.

The river was perfect and was the most perfect golden color on a perfect summer day.  The trees surrounding the river were this wonderful pine free color against the blue sky.  I remember hearing this rushing water and experiencing a gentle cool spray of water on my skin.  My two children were bubbling over with joy and anticipation and had these huge grins on their faces.   Joshua begged, "Mom, mom, please, I beg you.  I am jumping in!  You jump too!"
