Introduction to a Speech on this Year's Topic: What it means to be a hero?

How do you survive with your children while hiding from a government and its soldiers who are hunting you down?  How is it possible to survive and  raise 2 children hidden from the world for three years and yet these two children thrive.  They develop and grow up...hiding from haters who have invaded their country, their city, their neighborhood.  Invaders who persecute and kill just because they hate Jews.  And yet somehow both children are happy children.  I recently had the honor of meeting a survivor of The Holocaust.  Her name is Louise Lawrence-Israel and her parents, I believe without question,  are heroes.  Please allow to me  explain and tell their story.

ELA: Directions for Speech Due Today

This is a practice speech...not the final speech.

  1. So...you did a quick research job someone from history, right? You have notes, right?
  2. Type in a size 12-14 font. On a Google Doc. Title it “History’s Heroes” and send it to Mrs. Leighton this morning (jleighton@hancockgrammar.org). Type a speech on ONE of your historical figures. An expository speech. Doesn’t have to be terribly long. Maybe 2-3 paragraphs. It’s just another practice opportunity to practice your speaking and listeningskills. Same classmate groups as last time. Your mission, should you accept, is to present what you know about this historical hero AND make it interesting. No pressure. But there’s a catch: Begin your speech with a hook.  Try one of these strategies:
Quote.
“What If” Scenario.

“Imagine” Scenario.
A Question. ...   or
Silence. ...
